Three Mountain Rescue Landrovers at GMCFS Training School in Manchester, together with seven BMRT members, were requested to attend a visit by Greater Manchester MP’s & Greater Manchester Fire Authority to the GMCFS. Also present were other specialist appliances, such as the Incident Command Unit, Special Incident Unit, Inshore Rescue Boat, Incident Response Unit, Technical Support Team, UK Fire Service Search & Rescue Team all from GMCFS & the Red Cross Fire Victims Support Group, Salvation Army Catering Unit & us.

Garry Rhodes, Team Leader explaining who and what BMRT is to Greater Manchester MP’s & members of the Greater Manchester Fire Authority at GMCFS Training School.

It gave the MP’s a chance to learn about us, for those whom may not have heard of us. It gave us a chance to meet MP’s who have been very strong supporters of the Team of the past 35 years and it gave us the chance to show GMCFS what we are about. It was a pleasure to meet old friends such as Sub Officer Ray Clift and make new friends with Chief Fire officer Barry Dixon, who took time out to talk and learn abit more of our joint working with GMCFS. After this visit we gave an impromptu demonstration to the latest intake of trainee firefighters, where we were pleased to see ex BMRT Team member Simon Johnson amongst the ranks of Trainee. Simon was a Ranger in Rivington, before moving North to the Lake District National Park and also a member of Patterdale MRT, after being a member of Bolton MRT during his stay here.

Our thanks are extended to Sub Officer Kirk Cornwall for inviting us to be part of this day. Also special thanks to GMCFS for putting on a very nice buffet lunch for everyone afterwards, Chris Tennant even went back for seconds !!
