Saturday 25th October saw a very early start for a full Team call out with a difference. This was the day we were commissioning our new Landrover Defender 110 CSW Ambulance, as a direct replacement for our now elderly Renault minibus.
Since receiving this vehicle in August from Williams Landrover of Manchester, the vehicle has been modified by Frank Hulton Motor Engineers of Farnworth
(who also carried out a considerable amount of work on our other three Landrovers. This our 4th Landrover has been purchased through a considerable donation from our involvement in the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games and from donations from the Sir James & Lady Scott Trust, The Provincial Insurance Company Trust for Bolton & The P Leigh-Bramwell Trust ’E’, who whom we are indebted to.

All four vehicles lined up outside of our garage facilities at Bolton Central Fire Station.

With this vehicle in service, we now have the most modern Mountain Rescue vehicle fleet within the United Kingdom Civilian Mountain Rescue Organization.
This Landrover also gives us a full all-wheel drive vehicle fleet which will add considerably to the operational
flexibility of the team and the capabilities we can offer our close colleagues in the statutory emergency services.
The team is indebted to the considerable amount of work involved in bringing this vehicle in to service that was provided
by Team Member Dave Healey (alongside of course all the hard work put in by our longstanding friend and team supporter Frank Hulton).

For those interested in facts and figures. The Landrover vehicle cost £21,000 from Williams Landrover, thanks to Debbie Wilson & Geoff Gartside for arranging such a good deal for us.
The purchase of emergency vehicle audio warning devices and emergency vehicle warning lighting cost us another £1,500.
The additional work required to fit all this and items such as the roof rack, roof rack cover, hi-lift jack, snow chains, fire extinguishers & blackening out the rear windows is expected to cost the Team in the region of another £4,000.
All this was made possible by the very generous donations from the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games and from donations from the Sir James & Lady Scott Trust, The Provincial Insurance Company Trust for Bolton & The P Leigh-Bramwell Trust ’E’ and you, the members of the public who have put money in one of our collecting tins, made a unsolicited donation, sat through one of our presentations.
