Team members Paul and Louise Jorgensen attended the GMAS NHS Trust Awards Ceremony held at the home of Bolton Wanderers Football Club, the Reebok Stadium.
The event marked the awards presented to Ambulance Service Staff recognising their achievements over the past year. In his opening address the Chairman, Alan Stephenson, welcomed the partner organisations of the trust recognising the valuable contribution of Mountain Rescue and others to the work of the trust.
Special Awards this year went to Steve Barker who was awarded Care Assistant of the year and the GMAS Commenwealth Games Special Incident Team , both of these were National Awards that had been gained from the ASI. Suzanne Tomlinson was awarded Emergency Medical Dispatcher of the Year and again this was a National Award.
Derek Huffadine, Karen Flanigan and Mariesa Barnes were presented with a special award for their fundraising efforts to Support CHAT who raise money for specialised medical work with Children, Andrew Redgrave received a special award for his work with First Responders and Salman Desai received a special Award for his work with the Greater Manchester Drug Action Team.
The Operational Team as a whole, received by the Managers on behalf of everyone, received a special award for their response to serious incidents, these included the tragic murder of police officer Steven Oakes during the course of his duties, undertaking services beyond the call of duty during a serious fire at a fireworks factory during the fire service dispute and dealing with the aftermath of a tragic accident on the M56 in Manchester when 7 people sadly lost their lives when a minibus they were travelling in crashed early one morning.
The awards were presented by Vice Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Mr David Wilson OBE DL.
Bolton Mountain Rescue Team would like to acknowledge the efforts of these individuals as well as the many others who received awards on the night and extend to all our colleagues in Greater Manchester Ambulance Service our appreciation of the valuable contribution they make to the lives of the community of Greater Manchester.
