GMAS Control paged the team at the early hour of 01:10 this morning following the report of an injured mountain biker in the Haslam Park area of Bolton. The informant who was also the injured party, described his location as “near the river”, which we took to be the Middlebrook. As a precautionary measure, in case the ambulance crew could not locate the casualty or his condition warranted our assistance in evacuation, the team was contacted.
As we arrived on scene the team was stood down as the casualty could be walked to the ambulance. Also stood down overhead was the GMP ASU Helicopter which had been called to provide night time illumination using its powerful “Nitesun” search light system.
Team Landrover at the RV point for this mornings call-out.
In total, 19 team members responded with the 14 on scene, and 3 of our team vehicles, at the time of stand down.
It was established that the 18 year old youth involved had actually come to grief on a Quad bike and had possibly lain unconcious since around 9pm the previous evening, a total of nearly 4 hours up to the emergency call being made. Fortunately other than hypothermia, he was unscathed, but very lucky.
