In the mid-afternoon a GMP Missing Person Search Manager called out our team and our colleagues from Oldham MRT and Rossendale and Pendle MRT, with regards to a 21 year old missing woman in the Smedley, Crumpsall area of Manchester.
The young woman had last been seen at around 11.30am this same day, and the circumstances of her disappearance were giving Police concern for her general well being.
All three teams arrived at the Hazelbottom Road search RVP at the same time to join up with Police resources already deployed and arriving. The Bolton MRT provided overall administrative control of the search, operating from our Control Trailer, as well as providing full catering support for the MRT resources and Police present via our catering trailer and the excellent help of our Support Group member Hazel Kennedy.
A large area of nearby open land was searched by the Police and MRT members involved, including three GMP General Police Dog Teams, two GMP Missing Person Search Managers, TAU, and local Divisional Staff. On the MRT side, Bolton MRT deployed 20 members, Oldham MRT 11 members and Rossendale and Pendle MRT 9 members, including Search Dogs form Bolton MRT and Oldham MRT. Our team also deployed a canoe search unit and bankside safety team, in a search of the nearby River Irk.
The search progressed into the evening with nothing positive regards the missing woman.
At 21.00 hrs a report was received that the missing woman had been seen close to the point where she went missing from, and GMP Officers along with Oldham MRTs Team Leader were immediately despatched to quickly establish this was indeed our missing (no longer 1) person. Shortly afterwards all the search assets were stood down to the RVP location, for a late night return to our Base and home locations.
