Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

11th March 2008

Today we received an extremely kind donation from the ’Open Door’ Group from Holy Trinity Parish Church, Horwich. The very generous £200.00 donation was raised at a coffee morning held on March 1st.

In a letter accompanying their donation they explained “We hold this coffee morning annually, to raise money for local charities, and as it is 50 years this year since the plane crash on Winter Hill, the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team is one of the charities we have chosen to support this year.

The entire membership is very grateful to all at the ’Open Door’ Group at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Horwich for their thoughtful support of the Bolton MRT.

The Winter Hill plane crash happened on February 27th 1958, when a Bristol 170 Freighter aircraft flying from the Isle of Man to Ringway (Manchester) crashed onto the summit of Winter Hill with the loss of 35 lives, there were 7 survivors, including the two pilots and air stewardess. The tragedy is marked by a Memorial Plaque on the Winter hill transmitter building. On the 50th anniversary of the terrible crash a memorial service was held at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Church Street, Horwich.
