Alex Bullock is a 14 year old pupil at Bury Church of England High School. Since the age of eight Alex has been an active member of Radcliffe Scouts and has always shown a keen interest in Bolton Mountain Rescue.
As such Alex was participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Alex approached to the Team to do his Service section with us, Alex had a conatct in the scheme of John Parish. Garry Rhodes, our TL, made contact with Alex & his parents to discuss his envolvement with the Team, during these discussions Alex was invited to particpate in the Wednesday night training exercises and also on Sundays.
Alas, Alex wasn’t allowed to participate in any call outs – due mainly to his youth & the minefield of insurance – but he showed a excellent attendance at Wednesday night training.
Due to this embargo on call outs Alex would frequently read the website for the Rescue team to update himself on the activities and call outs that we have been on.
During his training he has fulfilled all the requirements of the scheme and he also succesfully taken part in our Mountain Rescue Casualty Care Certificate Course.
Deputy Team Leader Geoff Seddon presents Alex with a certificate, recognising his 12 weeks with the Team.
We all wish Alex well with his D of E and look forward to the day he can join the Team properley and attend Incidents. He was a very well liked brief youth member of the Team and was well versed in fullfilling the Teams brew making requirements. Good luck Alex with the rest of your D Of E.
Unfortunately, despite a number of enquires from young people taken part in the D of E scheme, the Team is no longer able to provide such training as we did for Alex, the only exception being persons aged over 18 years of age.
