Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

7th March 2009

Today the team attended Bolton 999 Emergency Services Day in Bolton Town Hall Square.

The team attended with its four Mountain Rescue Landrover Ambulances and the control trailer together with 18 Full Team Callout and three Support Group members (with Support Group member Hazel Kennedy also bringing her nephew, Jordan). Together with the team were groups representing Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service, Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service (Manchester), the Territorial Army, BSM driving school and Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council.

Amongst the many demonstrations during the day was a stretcher carry performed by our own members. Our Training Officer, Andy Ryding, was press ganged into giving a running commentary on Tower Radio, who were also present, of the ’evacuation’ of the exercise casualty.

Throughout the day many people came to have a look at our vehicles and to talk to the team about the work we do in the local area. Several people we had previously rescued came and personally thanked the team. Although the team wasn’t on official collection duties, £8 was kindly donated by visitors to our display with many additional people thanking us for the work we do.

The team would like to thank the organisers of the day for inviting the team, allowing us to further promote the work we do and for the opportunity to further answer the question; “Why does Bolton have a Mountain Rescue Team when there are no mountains in Bolton?”
