Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

18th May 2010

Today team representatives met other colleagues from the emergency services and the Army, who are all jointly taking part in this years (Bolton) Help for Heroes event scheduled for Saturday 26th June 2010, and organised by Greater Manchester Police.

Meeting at the TAVR Nelson Street Barracks in Bolton, the opportunity was taken for a photocall to announce this years event, with a photographer from the Bolton News present.

In attendance were Greater Manchester Police, Lancashire Constabulary, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and the British Army, with the guest appearance of the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton.
On Saturday 26th June 2010, representatives from all the organisations present today will be running from Fulwood Barracks, Preston to Bolton Town Centre, all raising money for the Help for Heroes Charity.

The twist is they all have to run in boots, whilst carrying a 30lb rucksac, and not only that they have to beat a Police Car which will be journeying from Inverness to Bolton !

Others from the same organisations will be taking part in a shorter run of nearly 7 miles, from the summit of Winter Hill to Bolton town centre, again raising funds for the Help the Heroes Charity. (and also wearing boots but with a 35lb rucksac !)

Elaine Gilliland our Training Officer (ex British Army) will be representing the Bolton MRT in the 30 mile event, whilst team members Fred Taylor and Brian Brooks (ex British Army) and Stephen Kenworthy (ex Royal Air Force) will be taking part in the Winter Hill to Bolton run.

On the day of the event, the rest of the Bolton MRT will be providing full standby rescue cover for the moorland sections of the runs, assisting with road crossing duties and on hand to meet all the runners as they arrive for a Civic Reception in Bolton town centre.

Present today were our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE, Team Training Officer Elaine Gilliland and Team member Stephen Kenworthy, along with one of our Team Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances.
