Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

22nd May 2010

Today, in glorious sunshine, two team members, Chris Tennant, Base and Catering Officer, and Elaine Gilliland, Training Officer, journeyed in our team vehicle, BM1 to Victoria Square, Bolton.

At the kind invitation of Soroptimist International of Bolton the team had been asked to demonstrate their vehicle and equipment to the townspeople of Bolton. During this year, Soroptimist International of Bolton has been working on a project to help raise the profile of many of the smaller voluntary groups who play an important part in Bolton’s community.

In October 2007, the team were contacted by Soroptimist International of Bolton to inform us that they had chosen Bolton Mountain Rescue Team as part of their overall support for charitable causes and in March 2009 the team were presented with an extremely generous donation from the group. (See articles 2nd October 2007 and 27th March 2009).

Joined by Marcin Zadlo, Trainee Team Member, our team members were met at 09.00 hours by Sue Tonks and Sue Whitter – instigators and organisers of this excellent event, and directed to an appropriate position in the sunshine.

Other volunteer organisations that were invited to today’s event were:

  • The Volunteer Centre,
  • Women’s Royal Voluntary Service,
  • Home-Start Bolton,
  • Nexus Community Links,
  • vinvolvedbolton,

  • Streetwise Soccer.

The Mayor of Bolton opened the event at 10.00 hours and from that time onwards, the event was busy with Bolton Townspeople and shoppers gathering information from all the voluntary services.

Joined at lunchtime by Mike Marsh, Full Team Call Out Member, our members spent the day answering numerous enquiries about what we do and what is required to join the team and the team would like to thank all the people who kindly donated to us.

During the day, Elaine was invited onto the podium to explain to the audience the work of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and Mike was interviewed by BoltonLive.

The whole team membership would like to express sincere gratitude to Soroptimist International of Bolton for their very generous donation to us and for their kind invitation to take part in today’s excellently organised event.

Kind donations totalling £37.37 were made during the day to the team, with thanks to all the shoppers who
supported us.
