Today for the second year running, the team provided standby rescue cover and shared marshalling duties with our friends from Horwich Rotary Club and the Air Cadets for this years Salomon Rivington Trail Half Marathon event.
Organised by 2:09 Events, the race enjoyed its second year in Rivington, with the route, this year, starting at Rivington & Blackrod School.
Due to recent attractive path improvements alongside Angelzarke to White Coppice, 2:09 Events made a change to the 2009 route.

The route started on the school field heading up and under Rivington Pike before dropping down to Sheep House Lane.
After crossing the road and through a gate, the runners proceeded on to Yarrow Reservoir (8km) and on to the side of Angelzarke Reservoir. From the top of the reservoir the new route continued on to White Coppice, crossing the river and returning to pick up the trail around the east side of Angelzarke Reservoir to the top end of the lake.
On the west side of the lake the runners took the footpath up hill to Grey Heights and left on to the bridleway running south above the lake, eventually getting to the dam.
They then cross the dam and head back up to Yarrow Reservoir before retracing their steps back to Rivington. After a short distance on Rivington Lane the runners proceeded up to the back of the Barn and return to Rivington and Blackrod High School and the finish line.
In total 386 runners took part in the race, we believe the first runner completed the course in 80 minutes. Alongside the main Salomon half marathon was a ’fun run’ of 3km in which 28 people took part.
In total 23 Full Team Callout members and 5 Support Group members attended this event, together with our 4 Land Rover Ambulance vehicles, our minibus and our dedicated Control Trailer.
One competitor retired from the race with a suspected Achilles tendon injury, which we transported back to the start/finish location. This incident has not been recorded in our official incident figures and is recorded here for informational purposes only.

For the second year running, the team is happy to be associated with this local event, and its involvement through 2:09 Events.
Next years event at a similar time is already in planning with the team once again invited to attend and provide Standby rescue provision by 2:09 Events.
