Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

20th October 2010

This evening we had an excellent guest speaker at our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ from the North West (Police) Underwater Search and Marine Unit.

Phil Brooks from the Unit gave a very interesting two hour presentation to the twenty nine team Call Out list members present, on the wide role and work of the Unit.

Phil Brooks introduces his presentation

Over the years we have worked on many occasions with the Unit and its predecessor Units, the most recent being a search for a missing person at Turton and Entwistle on Wednesday 28th July 2010 (Our Incident 70-2010)
Phil outlined the vast array of equipment the Unit has, including high tech sonar equipment and mini underwater camera equipped ROVs (Remote Operated Vehicles) and its work in support of the Police Forces it operates for. (Greater Manchester Police, Lancashire Constabulary, Merseyside Police, Cheshire Constabulary, North Wales Police, and Cumbria Constabulary)

Phil also outlined the various search methods utilised by the Unit in its work.
The entire presentation also included DVDs of various operations involving the Unit.

At the conclusion of his very informative and interesting presentation, Phil accepted thanks on behalf of the team from our Training Officer Elaine Gilliland, then joined us all for a social drink afterwards.
