Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

31st December 2010

On the late afternoon of Tuesday, 21st December 2010, we were called out to rescue a twelve year old boy who had injured himself in a sledging accident, on the snow covered slopes alongside Wayoh Reservoir, Edgworth.

On Thursday 30th December, The Bolton News carried an article featuring the boy involved, Luke Ponton, a Turton High School pupil.

In the article Luke publicly thanked us for going to his rescue, and promised us a donation. Luke stated in the article, “They do it out of their own time. They have different jobs and they’re all volinteers.”

Today our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE, who was one of the first rescuers on scene at Luke’s accident, received a Thank You card from Luke Ponton, enclosing a £50.00 donation to the Bolton MRT.

In his card to the team Luke states, “Thank you for helping me on the 21st December after my sledging accident. You were all brilliant. My leg is much better now. I wanted to say thank you with some of my savings.”

The whole team is amazed at this very kind donation from Luke, and we will be arranging to invite Luke and his family and friends down to the team to meet us at our Ladybridge Hall Base/HQ.
