Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

23rd June 2011

This morning our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE joined colleagues from GMFRS Bolton Fire Station, Greater Manchester Police and a PCSO, Bolton MBC and the British Army for a press photocall to advertise the Winter Hill to Bolton Town Hall Charity Run for the Help for Heroes charity / Armed Forces Day, to be held in Victoria Square, Bolton, on Saturday 25th June 2011.

Why not come along and wave on and support the seventy five runners taking part in the run from Winter Hill Summit to Bolton Town Centre on Saturday?

The runners from GMP / PCSO, GMFRS, The Probation Service, British Army and two members of our Team, are all running for the Help for Heroes charity, and set off from Winter Hill summit at 12.30pm.

They run initially across the local moors, then onto Coal Pits Lane, Smithills, across Scout Road (an excellent viewing / support point) then down Past Smithills School and down Halliwell Road, culminating in a ’March of Runners’ into Victoria Square, Bolton, at 2.00pm.

Amazingly as part of the challenge, all the seventy five runners are running the event in boots and carrying a 35lb (15.9kg in new money) rucksac!

Throughout the day in Victoria Square, Bolton, there are a huge variety of events taking place marking Armed Forces Day, including Armed Forces Displays, Harper Green School Choir, Bolton Scottish Pipe Band, the Houghton Weavers, Army and Sea Cadet displays, and numerous other activities. (Our Team will also be present)

On the run we are providing Standby Rescue Cover, assisting GMP with road crossing duties for the runners, escorting the runners throughout the route, providing a refreshment station at the end of the run and providing a Team Vehicle ’Honour Escort’ for the runners as they all enter Victoria Square at 2.00pm.
