Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

This evening, Bolton Mountain Rescue Team was very proud to be invited by Lynne Baker, Head Teacher of Lowton St Mary’s Junior School in Lowton, Wigan to partake in their Annual Presentation Evening ‘St Mary’s Oscars’. Bolton Mountain Rescue Team has previously worked with classes within the school on the work of the team and volunteering. (Please refer to website reports 22/04/2010, 14/07/2010, 07/10/2010, and 05/05/2011).

The event is a formal presentation to celebrate and congratulate the children and staff alike for their contribution to the school over a twelve month period and was attended by excited children and very excited parents, grandparents and siblings.

Invited to attend the event and present awards were a number of dignitaries including the Mayor of Wigan Borough, Councillor Joy Birch and her Consort, Mr Albert Bradley, Mrs Edith Smith, Chair of Governors, PC Woodcock, local Police Constable, Councillor John Grundy, ex-pupil of Lowton St Mary’s, Children’s Poet, Ian Bland, and School Nurse, Mrs May Woodcock.

Elaine Gilliland, Team Training Officer, attended the very well organised event on behalf of the team and was asked to present two awards.

The awards presented to children and staff consisted of Hardest Worker, Mathematician of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Librarians Award, French Speaker of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Child of Courage, Best Newcomer, Writer of the Year, Ambassador for the School, Eco Warrior, Performer of 2011, Child most likely to become Prime Minister, Most Improved Pupil, Good Samaritan, Scientist of the Year, Support of the School, Gaynor Hughes Memorial Award, Best SATs Results, Young Achiever of 2011, Best All Rounder, Smiler of the Year, Artist of the Year, Staff Member 2011, and Governor 2011.

On behalf of the whole team membership, Elaine would like to thank the staff and children of Lowton St Mary’s Junior School for the honour of attending this excellent event celebrating the excellent work of the children and staff and and wish everybody success in their new school year 2011/2012.
