At 11.29hrs today our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE was contacted directly by the Team Leader of Rossendale and Pendle MRT, requesting the assistance of Bolton MRT to RPMRT with a search for a missing 82 year old man.
The call for assistance was passed to our Deputy Team Leader Geoff Seddon, who at 11.42hrs paged out a full team call out.
The man involved had been reported missing to Lancashire Constabulary on Thursday 18th August 2011, with Police launching a major search around his house location and other areas on Friday 19th August, sadly with no results.
New searches took place on Sunday 21st August, this time involving Rossendale and Pendle MRT assisting Lancashire Constabulary, again without success.
With increasing publicity, new information regards a sighting of the missing man on the day he went missing, was received by Lancashire Constabulary leading to a search this morning being launched of the area around Clowbridge Reservoir and Hameldon Hill on the moorlands to the south of Burnley.
With RPMRT and Bolton MRT members en-route to the search RVP just off the A682 near to Clowbridge Reservoir, news was received that a Police Air Support Unit helicopter from the North West Air Operations Group (Police) / Greater Manchester Police ASU NW01 / X Ray India 99 had located a body believed to be that of the missing man in the vicinity of Hameldon Hill, Lancashire.
At 12.10hrs our eight team members initially responding were stood down, whilst RPMRT members continued to the location, and assisted Lancashire Constabulary with the recovery of the mans body.
The teams condolences are extended to the family of the man involved.
