With a small number of team members already at our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ at the conclusion of the mornings and early afternoon standby rescue cover for the Salomon Rivington Trail Half Marathon event, we received a pager call out from NWAS (Lancashire) at 15.18hrs, to respond to an incident in the Darwen area which we quickly established on behalf of NWAS (Lancashire) Emergency Control after we had spoken directly to the 999 caller, was in the vicinity of Jubilee Tower on Darwen Moor.

Two of our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ based Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances were able to make an immediate response, meeting the responding NWAS (Lancashire) Emergency Ambulance at The Sunnyhurst Public House, Sunnyhurst Woods at the base of Darwen Moor, at 15.49hrs.

Both vehicles drove directly via the stone surfaced moorland track network to Jubillee Tower, transporting the NWAS Emergency Ambulance (Two) crew members directly to the scene, where a seven year old boy, who had sustained a knee injury whilst out walking on this fine day in the company of his father and brother, was treated by the NWAS crew, with all being transported down in our two responding team vehicles.

All arrived back at the roadside RVP by the Sunnyhurst Public House at 16.30hrs, with the young child in the company of his father and brother then being taken for treatment to Royal Blackburn Hospital, with the NWAS Emergency Ambulance departing at 16.35hrs.

The following resources were involved in this incident ;

• NWAS (Lancashire) Emergency Control Centre,
• NWAS (Lancashire) Emergency Ambulance, two crew members from Blackburn Ambulance Station. (One was a former member of a Lake District MRT)
• Bolton MRT; Two Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances (BM1 / BM3) with fourteen members present on scene. (Six were held back at the roadside RVP in case of need, whilst eight travelled up to the casualty site) A further seven team members were stood down responding.

Please note, an additional six team members who were also available for this call out, but who were en route to a team commitment at the Edgworth Real Ale Festival, were instructed to continue to the ERAF commitment as enough members were available for this incident.
