On Saturday 25th October 2003 we commissioned into team service our Land Rover Defender 110 TD5 Ambulance MV03KYE ’Bolton Mobile 4’, as a direct replacement at the time for an elderly Renault minibus operated by the team.

This vehicle, our fourth brand new purchased Land Rover in the history of the team, had been obtained on 15th August 2003 from Williams Landrover of Manchester, and the vehicle was modified by Frank Hulton Motor Engineers of Farnworth.

This vehicle was purchased through a considerable donation from our involvement in the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games and from donations from the Sir James & Lady Scott Trust, The Provincial Insurance Company Trust for Bolton & The P Leigh-Bramwell Trust ’E’, to whom we continue to be indebted to.

At the time this Land Rover cost £21,000.00 from Williams Land Rover. The purchase of emergency vehicle audio warning devices and emergency vehicle warning lighting cost us another £1,500.00. The additional work required to fit all this and items such as the roof rack, roof rack cover, hi-lift jack, snow chains, fire extinguishers & blackening out the rear windows cost the Team in the region of another £4,000.00. All this was made possible by the very generous donations from the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games and from donations from the Sir James & Lady Scott Trust, The Provincial Insurance Company Trust for Bolton & The P Leigh-Bramwell Trust ’E.’

With the arrival late this spring of three brand new Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances into the teams service, all with a different emergency vehicle livery to the livery on our Ford Transit Minibus and our ’Bolton Mobile 4,’ we decided to have our Ford Transit Minibus and our retained ’Bolton Mobile 4’ Land Rover reliveried to match our newly purchased Land Rovers.

Regular readers will recall that last week we reported on our Ford Transit Minibus / ’Bolton Mobile 5,’ with this week being the turn of ’Bolton Mobile 4.’
The redecalling work once again has been carried out very ably and very quickly by Crake International of Cumbria, the suppliers of our three brand new Land Rovers.

Our Land Rover MV03KYE ’BM4’ was returned to us this afternoon resplendent in its new livery, and with mileage in the low 30,000’s matched with an overall excellent bodywork condition, this vehicle will continue to give us a good few years yet in team operational service.

The new livery included the obvious addition of new pattern side ’Batterberg’ markings, and the repositioning with new decals of many existing decals on the side bodywork.
