This afternoon our Honorary Life Vice President Tony McNally and Paul Copley visited Year 5 of RL Hughes Primary School in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan.
Paul’s report on the visit is reproduced below:
“Today on this very wet and cold afternoon, our Honorary Life Vice President Tony McNally and Call Out list member Paul Copley travelled to R.L.Hughes Primary School. to give a lecture to the school’s Year 5 pupils.
On arrival Tony and Paul were met by Head Teacher Lynne Carroll and were then taken into the School Hall where they were met by Y5 Teacher Melanie Hurst who introduced Tony and Paul to approximately 70 Year 5 pupils.
Tony gave the pupils an overview of the team and asked the pupils what they knew about the team. Year 5 had clearly done their homework on the team due to their knowledge of the team and the great questions that they had for Tony.
Tony stayed in the School Hall taking questions from the pupils and teachers whilst Paul took other pupils into the bitter cold and wet outside in four groups, to show the pupils the Team Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulance vehicle they had taken along, including all the search and rescue equipment carried on the vehicle.
Paul had many great and interesting question from the pupils, whilst demonstrating how we use vacuum splints, our vacuum mattress and the contents of one of our Trauma Bags.
Tony and Paul would like thank R.L.Hughes Primary School for the very warm welcome they received not to mention a great cup of tea as well, the pupils of Year 5 for their fantastic and obviously keen interest in the team and for the great questions they had prepared and posed on the day.”
