Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

22nd March 2012

This evening the team hosted a visit to our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ by Scouts and Leaders from the 7th Bolton North Scout Group. There follows an account of the evening visit by long serving and very experienced team Call Out list member Gill Leigh, who was present.

“Tonight eight Scouts from 7th Bolton Scout Group, along with seven Leaders paid a visit to our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ. Here they were met by experienced Team Call Out list members Gill Leigh, Mike O’Brien and Paul Chisholm. (Joined later by John Fletcher)

Gill gave an introductory talk to explain about the work of the Team and answered questions from the group. The Scouts then went outside whilst Paul gave them a tour of the vehicles – including flashing blue lights and sirens. Following this the Scouts were introduced to the Bell Mountain Rescue Stretcher and soon realised how heavy it is to carry one of their friends. The next session was led by Mike and it was the Scouts turn to impress Team members with their knowledge and skills of CPR and mouth to mouth resuscitation, using one of our dummy Resusi-Annie mannequins.

The last task of the evening involved bandaging and strapping ’broken’ arms into slings. Finally the Scouts were given leaflets to help raise their awareness of how to stay safe in the hills – which will be put to good use next weekend when they have a hike planned.”
