Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

18th June 2012

The entire team membership and particularly our members who know Peter personally, extend full congratulations to him on his being made an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) announced recently by the Queen in her Birthday Honours Listing.

Peter Leslie Smith, a life member of Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team, and their former Team Leader for two terms of Office, has undertaken many roles in his very long service within mountain rescue, with his own team, and within our regional body the Mid Pennine Search and Rescue Organisation and its predecessor organisation the MPMAP, where he served for many years as the Regional Training Co-Ordinator.

Peter is also a very experienced and accomplished mountaineer, having completed the ‘Munro’s’ some years ago.

Peter for a long period of service has been Honorary Secretary of our national representative body, Mountain Rescue England and Wales.

Peter has been made an OBE in recognition of his services to Mountain Rescue. (See also website news report dated Thursday 15th December 2011, when Peter received his forty years in mountain rescue certificate / award)
