On Saturday 23rd June Call Out team member Martin Banks had his ’moment to shine’ when he had the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch in Burnley. Commenting on his experience Martin said ’that it was an amazing experience, he was overwhelmed by the crowds who had come out to see the Torch’, 50 family and friends accompanied Martin to Burnley to cheer him on including his Mum, Jan, his Wife Stella and daughter Felicity.
Since the 23rd of June Martin’s Torch has been on a tour of its own …. Martin has taken to the Torch to work where he raised £90 for work charities by charging for photos with the Torch; has gone to school taking the Torch to three primary schools including an assembly of 200 children and various classes; to a Scout family camp at Linett Clough scout site, where the Torch came in to its own as part of the Olympic themed day and to Sermons Sunday at Christ Church Heaton where the Torch and bearer joined in the Torch themed service. As with all the Torch outings the Torch is the centre of attention, being passed around for photos.
At Christ Church Heaton, after the obligatory ’photo shoot’ various donations totalling £17 were made to the Team as thanks for attending. A very kind gesture from the congregation of Christ Church Heaton.
