Today team members Chris Greenhalgh, Craig Lamb, Nigel Booth, Mike O’Brien and Steven Kenworthy journeyed to GMFRS Wigan Fire Station for their open day in two of our Landrover Ambulances. The open day was based on the theme of emergency services.
We displayed various items of equipment including first aid, rope rescue, water rescue and other search and rescue equipment as well as the team vehicles for members of public to view and ask questions about. We proved to be a popular part of the day with a steady flow of people young and old coming over to have a look what we have.
The Fire Service had various fire service appliances on display along with their water incident unit based at Heywood, Hydraulic Platform based at Leigh and Special Incident Unit based at Farnworth and a turntable ladder appliance. Other emergency services on display included GMP along with a number of PCSO’s and the North West Ambulance Service (Manchester) with an Emergency Ambulance and a Rapid Response Vehicle.
Luckily, despite the threat of rain all day, it stayed dry until the event ended at 4 O’clock.
The team wish to thank Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service for the oppurtunity to attend this open day, Geoff Thornley of GMFRS who was the organiser on the day and the operational personnel based at Wigan Fire Station who were very welcoming to us.
