24th May 2013

This morning our Team Call Out list member Nigel Booth (In full time, a GMFRS Watch Commander at Bolton North Fire Station) journeyed to the Forest of Bowland AONB Offices at Dunsop Bridge, Lancashire, for the fourth meeting of the Lancashire Fire Operations Group.

This group as regular readers will remember, serves to bring all those who would be involved in wildfire fire fighting operations in Lancashire, together under the direction of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

The meeting today had representatives present from Land owners / Estate Owners, United Utilities, The Moorland Association, Environment Agency, Cumbria FRS, GMFRS, LFRS, Ranger Services, Bay Search & Rescue Team, Bowland Pennine MRT, Rossendale and Pendle MRT and Bolton MRT, amongst other organisations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, all present were invited to and attended, a visit to the Smelt Mill Cottages, Dunsop Bridge, Headquarters of Bowland Pennine MRT, at the kind invitation of the Team Leader of BPMRT Phil O’Brien, who had been present at the FOG meeting.

Our Team member Nigel Booth who attended this FOG meeting representing Bolton MRT, also did so in his capacity as a GMFRS representative. (Another GMFRS representative present was a long serving friend of Nigel who started with him at the same time in GMFRS)

After the meeting and visit, Nigel returned home for some much needed sleep, having been the GMFRS Officer in charge at a serious incident in Bolton into the early hours of this morning, involving an acetylene cylinder.
