At 18.15hrs this sunny early evening, we were paged by NWAS (Lancashire) EOC Broughton, requesting our assistance with a 92 years old woman who had fallen down an embankment in Sunnyhurst Wood, Darwen.
An NWAS (Lancashire) Emergency Ambulance crew from Altham Ambulance Station were on scene, and had asked for our help to get the woman back up the embankment.
A full team pager call out was made at 18.22hrs, with members at this stage already responding to our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ with others going direct to Darwen.
At circa 18.28hrs our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE was contacted directly by NWAS (Lancashire) EOC to stand down our response as mountain rescue assistance was no longer required, due to the Ambulance crew having managed to extricate the apparently unharmed woman.
Our first of two responding Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances was just leaving our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ at this time with three team members on board, and at least two team members had arrived at the RVP and were just about to enter the woods at Sunnyhurst.
In total we had twenty two team call Out list members stood down responding to this incident.
With the kind prior permission of our friends at Bowland Pennine MRT, given it was an emergency response, we again made use of ‘their’ Winter Hill Repeater radio channel, which greatly aided and facilitated our response on this incident.
