Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

6th June 2013

This fine warm and very sunny evening, the team provided standby rescue cover for the annual Hendersons End Fell Race, organised as ever by Lostock Athletics Club.

The route this year followed a new routing, taking in the Old Kates Dingle track to the Pigeon Tower in the Terraced Gardens at Rivington, Rivington Pike, Georges Lane, Two Lads, and thence to Winter Hill summit, returning the same way to the start and finish location at Rivington Hall Barn.

Starting at 19.30hrs the senior race attracted 118x runners alongside a ‘sweep’ runner.

All bar two runners who retired, managed to complete the event, with thankfully no incidents requiring the teams assistance.

Present throughout this event, in all six of the teams operational vehicles, were twenty five team Call Out list members.

We were joined and assisted by the next generation of the Leigh family to potentially serve in the team, in the guise of Robert Leigh, son of current very long serving team member Gill Leigh, and her husband former team member and ex Deputy Team Leader Ian Leigh.

This event represented the first operational deployment of our brand new Incident Control Vehicle.

The team would like to express its thanks to our colleagues at Bowland Pennine MRT for allowing us to utilise their Winter Hill Repeater radio channel to better our communications on this event.
