At 14.38hrs this very warm (32c!) very sunny and dry afternoon, we were paged by NWAS (Manchester) EOC Parkway for our assistance in regards to a climbing accident at Wilton Number 1 Quarry, north of Bolton.
An NWAS (Manchester) Emergency Ambulance had been called to the report of a climbing accident, and upon arrival requested the assistance of Bolton MRT and the North West Air Ambulance Helimed 08.
NWAA Helimed 08 landed adjacent to the incident site at Wilton 1 QuarryWith one team vehicle about to depart our Ladybridge Hall Base/HQ, the news came through that Helimed 08 had managed to land within the Wilton 1 Quarry, adjacent to where the climber had fallen. Very shortly after this, four team members arrived at the scene of the accident. Accordingly it was decided that further resources from the team were not required as the only assistance needed was with carrying the casualty a short distance to the waiting aircraft.
With the help of the four of our team members who had arrived very quickly on scene, along with the the NWAA and NWAS crews, the male casualty was evacuated the short distance from the base of the quarry, to the waiting helicopter, for onward transfer to Royal Preston Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.
The scene of the incident involving the fallen climberAside from the four team call out list members assisting on scene a further twenty-two team call out list members were stood down responding to this incident.
