We are reminding all our readers that there is only two days left to go before the date of this years Greater Manchester Emergency Services (Third) Annual Open Day, at the great venue yet again of the Trafford Centre, Manchester, between 10.00hrs and 17.00hrs on Thursday 8th August 2013.

Ben Levy, GMFRS Station Commander at Stretford Fire Station, organiser of the 2011, 2012 and this years event, reports that; “I believe that this is one of the largest (if not THE largest) free event of its kind in the country.”

As with the previous two years we will be displaying all four of our Land Rover Ambulance vehicles at this fantastic event, our Minibus / Crewbus Ambulance and our SAR Boat along with exhibition material relating to the work of the team.
New to this year we will also have on show our still brand new VW Crafter Incident Control Vehicle, ‘BM6,’ and our brand new ‘Exhibition Marquee’ tent, carrying the teams logo.

As of today, twelve Bolton MRT experienced Call Out list members have confirmed that they will be in attendance, alongside two members of our integral Support Group, to crew our exhibition and be on hand to answer any questions visitors may have as to the work and role of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.

Our Catering Trailer unit will also be on hand, providing hot and cold drinks, and biscuits for all the personnel involved in the day from all the various services attending (Please note this facility is not available to members of the public)

Also within the ‘Mountain Rescue Zone’ of the days events will be our colleagues from Rossendale and Pendle MRT, who will be attending with their latest ‘Mountain Rescue specification’ Toyota HiLux Ambulance vehicle.

Please make a date in your diaries to come along and visit this event, there really is a lot to see and take part in, with items to interest all, from the young to the old, it’s a great family day out and what’s more it is completely free.

EMERGENCY services will join forces for a spectacular free event for all the family at the Trafford Centre next Thursday, August 8 from 10am to 5pm.

Emergency Services Open Day 2013 is one of the largest events of its kind in the UK with more than 5,000 people attending last year’s event.

Specialist vehicles from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), Greater Manchester Police (GMP), North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), the Army and Mountain Rescue Teams will be on display all day alongside other attractions.

GMFRS Station Manager Ben Levy, said: “There will be a range of live displays throughout the day including road traffic collisions, kitchen safety, domestic sprinklers, cadet unit demonstrations and many more.

“Drivers, young and old, whether on two wheels or four, will be able to pick up tips to stay safe on the roads from GMFRS, GMP, Institute of Advanced Motorists and RoSPA.

“We will also have a brand new driving simulator for drivers to show off their skills.

“In our Mountain Rescue Zone you’ll see the wide range of equipment and vehicles used to support the emergency services and communities in the rural areas of the county.

“In our Vintage Zone you’ll come face to face with the past with some classic fire engines, police cars and ambulances.

“Visitors to the Emergency Services Open Day will not be able to miss a chance to pick up vital lifesaving skills including how to deal with heart attacks using cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) devices taught by NWAS paramedics and supported by The British Heart Foundation.”

“A number of other supporting groups and services will be offering basic life support instruction throughout the day too.”

Chief Inspector Donna Allen of GMP’s Specialist Operations Branch said: “This event is a perfect showcase for us to demonstrate the wide variety of work we do, and I would urge people to come and visit us. Among those attending on the day will be our underwater search team, the Tactical Aid Unit, police horses and specialist search dogs.

“Officers from the collision reconstruction unit will stage an accident to show the work they do, and crime scene investigators will demonstrate how fingerprints are taken.

“There will also be a selection of specialist and vintage police vehicles on hand for the public to enjoy, and there is a chance that the Force helicopter will fly over the event if its area of work allows.

“GMP will be represented on the day by its 22 new cadets, members of the Special Constabulary and local police community support officers, who will be giving out crime prevention advice.
