Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

15th April 2014

This Good Friday the team will be out and about around Rivington and Rivington Pike in regards to the large number of visitors anticipated to the area for the Annual Rivington Pike Fair and the long standing tradition on Good Friday in Bolton, Horwich, Chorley and local area of ‘Walking up the Pike.’

The team has had a presence every Good Friday in the Rivington area for a very long period, and we work in co-operation and alongside the usual Lancashire Constabulary, Greater Manchester Police and United Utilities Ranger patrols, all due to the very large numbers of visitors to the area on this day.

With the current warm and dry conditions, both Lancashire and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Services are warning of the dangers of grass fires in the area, which can cause considerable damage to moorland grazing pasture and forestry.

All four of our Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances and our Incident Control vehicle will be present on Good Friday with sixteen plus Team Call Out list members attending.

In past Good Fridays in the area we have dealt with minor to very serious injuries to visitors, alongside NWAS and sometimes in liaison with the Air Ambulance helicopter, missing children searches and liaised with LFRS / GMFRS dealing with grass fires.

To all our supporters and friends, if in the area, and passing by say hello and have a chat with us.

On Easter Saturday afternoon, as we have done for a number of years, we’ll be providing Standby Rescue Cover for the Annual Rivington Pike Fell Race, organised by Horwich RMI Harriers and Athletics Club.

Consisting of Junior and Senior Fell Races, which all take place on and around Rivington Pike, the Senior Race attracts a large number of entrants, with some incredibly fast times for the ascent and descent of Rivington Pike summit from and return to Lever Park entrance, Horwich.

As with Good Friday, we’ll have all our team vehicles attending, with fifteen plus Team Call Out list members present.
