We are very pleased to officially announce a new partner within MREW – our national body, which will greatly benefit the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.
Bolton MRT will soon be benefiting from a new corporate partnership between VARTA Consumer Batteries and Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW) that will support us in our work within the local and regional community with equipment and fundraising.
VARTA Consumer Batteries, a leading manufacturer of torches, portable charging devices and consumer batteries, will be supplying a combination of its state-of-the-art torches and batteries to Bolton MRT, as well as delivering on going fundraising support.
Each year, the 47x operational membership volunteers of Bolton MRT aided by our 12x Support Group members, attend on average more than 110x moorland, rural and urban incidents, giving up their time free-of-charge to assist members of the public and the emergency services.
To mark the partnership, VARTA, which is listed in a number of high street UK retailers including Argos, B&Q , Tesco and Robert Dyas, will include the MREW logo on selected product point-of-sale marketing, raising awareness of MREW’s work beyond its core support group of outdoor enthusiasts.
Our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE in regards to this partnership stated: “Our work relies on the support and generosity of the UK public at large and businesses like VARTA to survive. It costs a tremendous amount to fund and kit-out a mountain rescue team and we’re incredibly grateful to VARTA for its donations, both product-based and financial.”

Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW) is the national umbrella organisation for more than 50x local mountain and cave rescue teams across England and Wales.
Mountain rescue is delivered as a completely voluntary service and is available on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and every day of the year.
