On Wednesday 5th February this year, at a visit to our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ by two members of Radcliffe Athletics Club, we were asked to kindly provide standby rescue cover for the clubs Bull Hill Fell Race later in the year ( Please see website ‘News’ report dated the same)
Tonight as a completely new event in our listing of standby rescue covers, we provided such cover for the Radcliffe Athletics Club Bull Hill Fell Race.
The race, starting at Boardmans Farm, Hawkshaw, took in a route up to Lark Hill, thence to Bull Hill summit and on to Alden Ratchers, then to Beetle Hill, Pilgrims Cross, Holcombe Head Farm, to finish in the vicinity of Holcombe Hey Fold Farm, Holcombe.
209 runners took part, starting at 19.30hrs, on this fine, warm sunny evening.
20x Team call Out list members and one Probationary Team member, were present, alongside the help of Robert Leigh, the son of current team Call Out list member Gill Leigh (His father, Ian Leigh, is a former Bolton MRT member and a former Deputy Team Leader)
All four of our Team Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances were located with personnel strategically around the Fell Race route, with all being controlled and co-ordinated by our Deputy Team Leader Chris Greenhalgh, from our Incident Control Vehicle parked up at the Event Registration at the Wagon and Horses Public House, Hawkshaw.
With excellent dry ground conditions, blue skies and plenty of sunshine, all completed the race thankfully without any call upon our services.
The Bolton MRT welcomes this new relationship with Radcliffe Athletics Club, who also run and organise many other events such as Trail runs within the Bolton MRTs operational area.
