Whilst en route this afternoon from our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ., Bolton to a charity fund raising Tea Dance in Standish, our Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulance radio call sign Bolton Mobile 1, crewed by team member Naomi Horan (an Intensive Care Nurse full time) and our  President Bob Hutchinson came across a motor cycle accident at the Chorley New Road, Beehive roundabout in Lostock, Horwich.

Realising that no ambulance or other emergency service were in attendance at the time, they turned around and returned to see what assistance could be given.

A 999 call had been made at 13.55hrs and NWAS and GMP were on route.

The 40 year old male motorcyclist rider from Wigan, suffered a severe knee injury and was being aided by an off duty NWAS Paramedic who also happened to be passing by.

Our President Bob Hutchinson asked the Paramedic what assistance could be offered and he asked if we carried vacuum splints, which is standard equipment on all four of our team Land Rover response vehicles.

A full length leg splint was soon provided and applied with the assistance of Bob and Naomi.

An  NWAS (Manchester) Rapid Response Vehicle then arrived at 14.08hrs and the off duty Paramedic handed over to his colleague.
With the start of rain, Naomi provided a survival shelter to protect the casualty from the shower, who was given drugs to combat his pain.

The casualty was then transferred into an NWAS (Manchester) Emergency Ambulance (Bolton South Ambulance Station) and taken to Royal Bolton Hospital for emergency admission.

At this point Bob and Naomi took their leave at circa 15.30hrs and resumed their journey to Standish.

Also present at this RTC were resources from GMP, including vehicles and Officers  from Astley Bridge and Eccles Police Stations.
