Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

12th November 2014

As reported in these pages on Thursday 6th November 2014, the funeral was held this afternoon of our late friend and great supporter, Jean Mulvaney, former leader of the Victory Stompers Line-Dancing Club.

Our Team Secretary, Gillian Gregory, was joined by fellow Support Group members Amanda Strickleton and Sarah Hindle, who had all attended Jean’s charity fundraising events, to represent the entire membership of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team in bidding farewell to this very kind and generous lady.

The white glass horse-drawn hearse bearing her coffin was fitting for the “Dancing Queen”, as was one of the floral tributes in the shape of a ‘cowboy’ dancing boot bearing the one word “Grandma”.

The service in Overdale West Chapel was conducted by Reverand Philip Norris, (who was a former Chaplain to our colleagues in Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue Team) and included a poem composed specially and read by Jean’s son-in-law, Tony, entitled “Dancing Queenie” which drew applause from the many tearful mourners present.

As the service concluded, there was a lump in every throat as the people assembled in the chapel sat in silence listening to the beautiful recording of Sarah McLachlan singing “Angel”.

We all offer our sincere condolences to Jean’s husband, Alan, and family, and hope the love and happy memories of times spent with Jean will gradually replace their grief.
