Not previously reported within our website, was the visit commencing on Sunday morning, 30th November 2014, of three Bolton MRT team members to Humber Rescue.

Humber Rescue is an independent charity who provide a fast response rescue boat on the Humber Estuary-based near the Humber Bridge on the Hessle Foreshore.

Visiting were our DVSD Search Dog Handler Dave Marsh, with his newly graded DVSD Sasha, our Equipment Officer – Water David Cook and John Dickinson, all three being members of the Bolton MRT’s integral water team.

Also attending with them was British Transport Police Dog Handler Mike Dermody and his newly graded DVSD Quincy.

Dave Marsh has provided the following account of their visit, which took place on Sunday 30th November ;

“Busy day today. We started off with a visit to Humber Rescue, a non RNLI  / Independent Lifeboat team.

They kindly hosted myself, Sasha – one Dog in a Boat and two fellow members of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team , namely Dave Cook and John Dickinson, alongside our friend Mike Dermody from BTP and his DVSD Quincy.

Meeting up with three members of Humberside Fire and Rescue service, we toured the base taking a quick look at the office based side of water rescue as well as inspecting their inshore lifeboats.

An invite ensued for us to join a crewed boat to travel up and down the Humber, inspecting the sites where bodies are known to be washed up.

The two dogs took the water travel in their stride, with Sasha even dozing off half way through the proceedings.

After about an hour on the river, and a good chat to the lads we did a bit of training with one of the dogs they are hoping to train up for Drowned Victims search work.

Just as we were about to finish, the pagers went off and we were called to assist with an on going search in the South Manchester area.

I finally got home just after 6:30pm to an email asking for my availability for a search in Shrewsbury.

Looks like tomorrow’s day off may well be cancelled.

“It was a pleasure today to play host to a couple of more unusual guests.

Quincy & Sasha are fully trained drowned victim search dogs and came along with their handlers to check out the River Humber and its challenges.

Also out were Members of Humberside Fire & Rescue Dog handlers and Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.

A very good morning with multi agency partnership working.
