Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

5th January 2015

Today our Team Training Officer Alistair Greenough and our Equipment Officer – Medical Nigel Booth accompanied brothers Mike (GMFRS USAR and USAR Dog Handler) and Gary Dewar (recently retired from GMFRS after 30years service) onto the moors above  Wilderswood, Horwich,  to help Mike polish and perfect his map and compass work in preparation  for an upcoming winter survival training course in Banff, Canada, as part of Mike’s role within the UK ISAR team.

Topics covered included map bearings, pacing, timing, attack points, aiming off, contouring and relocation.
Hopefully Alistair will have another opportunity to look at more advanced navigation skills to help Mike with before he jets off to North America for his winter survival training.
