Our readers are aware that we are currently in the process of reviewing our rope access training, which is a direct follow on to the training received on the recent visit by five team members to Lyon Equipment on Saturday 18th April 2015 (Please see website report dated the same)

This evening four team members met at our GMFRS Bolton North Community Fire Station garage, and further practiced and reviewed our rope access training.

Present for this training was Team Equipment Officer – Ropes and Stretchers Nigel Booth, and Trainee team members Neil Haigh, Rasti Schweizer and Matthew Morris.

Again following the usual format, very comprehensive and intense training took place.

This is part of  a series of awareness sessions in rope access training being undertaken within the team membership by Team Equipment Officer – Ropes and Stretchers Nigel Booth and our Training Officer Alistair Greenough.

There follows and account of what took place during this evenings training, made by our Equipment Officer –Ropes and Stretchers, Nigel Booth;

“At 18:30hrs Rasti Scheizer & Neil Haigh arrived, with Matthew Morris joining us later. As Rasti & Neil H had started earlier they left at circa 22.00hrs after revising some skills and learning new ones. Matthew Morris  left just before 23.00hrs – this was his first rope session so we went through putting on a team harness including why the chest harness is important.

Then threading and function testing a ProAllP descender and an ID.

He fulfilled the MREW guideline in abseiling vertically – this included a safety back up rope and he also adjusted his position using a Petzl ID and handled ascender.”
