This Wednesday evenings exercise at Clifton Country Park, Swinton, was arranged by team members Phil Crook and Kris Kilshaw, against an exercise briefing by our Training Officer Alistair Greenough, with all three having previously visited the exercise venue to check out all the scenario locations (see website ‘News’ report of Thursday 14th May 2015)
There follows a report on tonight’s exercise by Phil Crook;
“Our weekly evening exercise took place tonight at Clifton Country Park with team members assembling for a round robin exercise.
Three exercises challenged the members taking part.
Organised by call out members Kris Kilshaw and Phil Crook, assisted by Michael Wakerley and Tony Dawson at the exercise locations and Gary Melia looking after proceedings in control.
- Challenge one;
- Carry out a self protected abseil down a vertical wall using crag gear carried in each of the four Land Rovers.
- Challenge Two;
- To safely and efficiently package and extricate a casualty from the top of a large boulder and recover them onto the ground using a full body vacuum mattress.
- Challenge Three;
- A steep ground stretcher handling exercise placing the casualty onto a stretcher and then negotiating a pre-set route using drag ropes and basic mountaineering techniques.
All members who took part wish to thank Support Group member Laura Tunnicliffe and team friend Stephen Buckley from North West 4X4 Response for acting as our exercise casualties this evening.
All members then retired to the local Unity Brook public house in Kearsley for a post exercise chat and debrief.”
In total twenty seven team Call Out list members attended this evening, alongside Support group member Laura Tunnicliffe.
Our Team vehicles in attendance included all four of our Land Rover Defender mountain Rescue Ambulances, and our Ford Transit Minibus Ambulance.
