Following the initial outline report made on the visit by four team members to the Year 5 and 6 pupils of St Peter’s Smithills Dean Church of England Primary School, Limefield Road, Smithills, Bolton, on Thursday 25th June 2015, there now follows a report on this visit by our Equipment Officer – Base and Catering Paul Copley;
“On Thursday the team visited St. Peter’s Smithills Dean Primary School at the invitation of Year 6 teacher Miss Emma Simm.
Full call out team members Paul Copley, John Dickinson and David Crawford along with trainee member Heath Doran arrived at the school at 13:30hrs and were met by Miss Simm.
On arriving at the school they proceeded to the school hall where they awaited the year 5 & 6 children to enter.
Following introductions and brief questions posed to them by the children, the pupils were then shown the latest MREW film after which they again answered numerous questions from children and teachers.
At this point the children split into 3 groups of 20 to go around sessions consisting of David Crawford on CPR using our Resusitation dummy – ResusiAnnie.
John Dickinson and Heath Doran presented sessions on our vacuum splints and vacuum mattress.
Meanwhile Paul Copley dealt with our team vehicle present and its contents.
All 3 sessions brought on numerous queries and questions to the four team members present.
Before our members knew it, it was time to end their highly enjoyable visit to the school.
All four were thanked by Miss Simm and other staff members for a highly informative lecture and they were quite surprised at realising the levels of skills that we had..
The children also thanked the team members for taking time to visit them.
Paul, John, David and Heath would like to thank the staff and pupils of the school for welcoming them and for their willingness to join in throughout the visit.”
