Today the team provided standby rescue cover for the annual Darwen Gala Fell Race, held as part of the fantastic Darwen Gala day festivities.
This year the Fell Race was once again organised by Darwen Running Group.
The main race route, which started at 13.30hrs, took in a 4.7 mile course on Darwen Moor, including Jubilee Tower, Darwen Hill and Whitehall.
Ordinarily we usually have a large number of team members present at this event, but with the team already being engaged in a major search operation at Moses Gate Country Park (see Incident 63) this year a core group of five team members, and one of our Land Rover Defender Mountain Rescue Ambulances attended.
In the event of any incident requiring our assistance, these five, our Deputy Team Leader Chris Greenhalgh, Diane Blakeley, David Crawford, Phil Horner and Steve James were all immediately on hand to assist, and call upon support from their colleagues at Moses Gate if needed.
Thankfully the event, in sunny weather and dry conditions underfoot, passed without any need for our assistance to the 142 runners taking part.
At the conclusion of the event, our Deputy Team Leader Chris Greenhalgh was pleased to accept on behalf of the team, a kind donation of £50.00 to the Bolton MRT, from Darwen Gala Committee.
The Bolton MRT is pleased to be invited to provide this continuing support to Darwen Gala Fell Race, and looks forward to our involvement in the 2016 event.
