This evening at 20.30hrs, our Trailing Search Dog Handler Steve Nelson was called out by SARDA Lake District to support an on going search incident in Crosby Ravensworth, east of Shap, for a missing 78 years old woman in circumstances giving Cumbria Constabulary concern for the persons welfare.
Steve, with Trailing Search Dog Boris, and Elaine Gilliland, who acts as Steve’s navigator, departed their Bolton home at 20.50hrs.
Following a late evening search briefing at 23.20hrs, all three deployed on to the local moorland, up to 01.45hrs in the early hours of Friday 18th September, at which point this element of the search was suspended until first light.
Following a debrief, Steve, Elaine and Boris all returned home to Bolton at 04.25hrs this morning.
This element of the search operation included amongst others; Penrith MRT, Kirkby Stephen MRT, Lake District Search Dogs, Cumbria Constabulary and a helicopter from NPAS.
The search continued in to Friday 18th September 2015, and drew in additional search resources including Kendal MSRT, Duddon and Furness MRT, RAF MRT, and a RAF SAR Sea King.

Mountain rescuers have joined in the search for a pensioner who went missing after going to walk her dog yesterday.
Yvonne Mullen, 78, went missing from Crosby Ravensworth, east of Shap, yesterday.
Police said she left her home at 1pm to walk her Staffordshire bull terrier in the area of Crosby Ravensworth Fell but neither returned home.
Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team said the search was still ongoing when they left at 4.30pm.
She described as being white, 5ft 5ins tall, with long grey hair. She was wearing glasses, a blue anorak, blue jeans and boots.
Police believe she may have Alzheimers.

On Saturday 19th September the Westmoorland Gazette reported a body had been found in the search for Yvonne Mullen.
