We are extremely pleased to announce some fantastic news from Greater Manchester Police, regarding their recent kind support granted to Bolton MRT.
Much discussion has taken place within the team to add a sonar device to our 3.4 metre long semi rigid inflatable SAR Boat, which would assist in its operations and also compliment the activities of our DVSD Search Dog Sasha and her handler Dave Marsh, when deployed searching from the boat.
At a recent NWAS Ceremony, our Treasurer Martin Banks and our Secretary Gillian Gregory, were seated at a table in the company of GMP Assistant Chief Constable Ian Wiggett, and Gillian and Martin took the opportunity to discuss some aspects of the teams workload with ACC Mr Wiggett, who promised to see what further support could be offered.
Martin subsequently wrote to ACC Mr Wiggett, outlining our requirements and desire to obtain an affordable sonar device for our SAR Boat.
Martin received in reply a kind letter dated 14th September 2015, from GMP Assistant Chief Constable Ian Wiggett;
“Dear Martin,
Many thanks for your letter.
I am pleased to let you know that we will be very keen to assist you in purchasing the Sonar kit to assist in your searches.
The funding for this has come from the seizure of criminal assets, so i hope it can be seen that these funds are coming back to good community use.

Further to this kind letter, we can now announce the receipt on Friday 18th September 2015 of a truly fantastic £700.00 donation from the Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester.
Our Equipment Officer – Water David Cook is now set to purchase a sonar device, likely to be a Raymarine Dragonfly Sonar- GPS-Chartplotter device.
The teams sincere thanks are expressed to the Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester for this wonderfully supportive donation, and to Greater Manchester Police Assistant Chief Constable Ian Wiggett, for his very much appreciated assistance with obtaining this donation, and his interest shown in the work of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.
