Whilst providing Standby Rescue Cover for the Long Distance Walkers Association ‘Anglezarke Amble,’ event we were contacted by the organisers at 09.52hrs advising of a possible incident involving one of the competitors.
Initial information passed on seemed to indicate the incident was in the vicinity of the San Marino Restaurant, Belmont.
We were then informed an Ambulance had already been requested by follow competitors and would we also attend the incident, therefore a team vehicle was immediately despatched to the San Marino, Belmont area.
Here a Police patrol redirected the responding vehicle to the Charters Moss area.
On Arrival at the incident location, at the side of Turton Heights near to Charters Moss Plantations, Bolton MRT responding assets met 2 x NWAS Paramedic Ambulances, 1 x NWAS Rapid Response Vehicle and 1 x GMFRS Pump Appliance from Bolton North Community Fire Station, who were already on scene along with the North West Air Ambulance Helimed 72.
The Competitor had suffered a serious medical emergency, and with the help of fellow competitors and that of a passer by who commenced immediate first aid, and then the work of the Ambulance and Fire Crews on scene the male casualty was cared for and then evacuated in Helimed 72 to Hospital in a stable but serious condition.
Grateful thanks must be passed to the fellow competitors who carried out the necessary care, including a 15 year old male who also greatly assisted (Passing the incident in a vehicle being driven by his father, he noticed the incident, his father stopped the vehicle and the youth went to render aid) and a member of Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team who was taking part in the event, who assessed and sorted out a suitable landing site for the Helimed helicopter along with the other Emergency Services on scene.
In total eleven Bolton MRT operational members responded to this incident in three team Land Rover Defender Mountain Rescue Ambulances.
