Around noon today, a group of walkers came across a collapsed male, within the replica of Liverpool Castle, which is located within Lever Park, on the shore of Lower Rivington Reservoir, Rivington.

Shortly afterwards a locally resident NWAS Community First Responder out socially walking with a friend, came across the location and continued to care for the collapsed male, whilst awaiting the arrival of NWAS responding resources.

With locked barrier gates denying ready access, the first responding NWAS RRV Paramedic set off on foot to walk the half mile to the Castle location.

At 12.29hrs NWAS (Lancashire) Broughton EOC directly contacted our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE requesting that we attend, as we have access keys to the gates within Lever Park.

It was also felt prudent to mobilise the team, in case the casualty required a stretcher evacuation to the responding Ambulance from his immediate location.

A full team pager call out was made at 12.37hrs, with team member Steve Fletcher arriving on scene at 12.51hrs at the access gate, by Knowle House Car Park, to find that a passing United Utilities Ranger (?) had opened the gate, and that the responding NWAS Emergency Ambulance had driven down to the Castle.

Our Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE next arrived on scene at 12.52hrs, drove directly to the Castle, and established the team was no longer required.

A stand down pager message was sent at 12.56hrs, with team members Heath Doran and then Martin Battersby turning up at Knowle House Car Park.

Three responding Bolton MRT Land Rovers were stood down, with one en route and two about to leave their garage locations.

The four team members present stayed on scene, to await the arrival of a responding Police Officer and to lock the gate / barrier again once the NWAS Ambulance departed for Chorley Hospital at 13.30hrs.

• NWAS (Greater Manchester); One off Duty Community First Responder.
• United Utilities; Local Area Ranger?
• Lancashire Constabulary; One Divisional Patrol Officer.
• Bolton Mountain Rescue Team; Three Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances, call signs ‘Bolton Mobiles 1,3 and 4.’ Four team members on scene and a further seven team members stood down responding.
