At 14:03 this afternoon the team was paged by North West Ambulance service who were requesting our assistance at an incident in Rivington.
Coincidentally a number of team vehicles were in the immediate area providing a standby rescue cover for the annual Rivington Pike Fell race, and the team was paged in the interval between two of the races; however we had been approached at 13:54 by a member of the public who reported the incident to us.
Team vehicles made their way through the Rivington Terraced Gardens, to the location of an injured 51 year old male; in doing so we were assisted by Rangers from United Utilities who unlocked the various gates through the gardens.
Team members commenced initial treatment of the casualty and due to his injuries (a fractured lower leg) an air ambulance was requested for expediency. An NWAS Land ambulance had also been despatched to this incident.
On arrival of the NWAA helicopter, and in discussion with the NWAS ambulance crew and NWAA crews, it was decided that the man should be transported by land ambulance.
Team members used a mountain rescue stretcher to carry the man down to Breres Meadow, where he was placed on board the waiting NWAS ambulance for onward transport to Royal Bolton Hospital.
At the conclusion of this incident the team then resumed the standby rescue cover of the nearby Rivington Pike fell race.
