Today 12 team members using three team landrovers provided safety rescue cover for the annual Easter Saturday Rivington Pike Fell races.
The junior races were held first starting behind Rivington and Blackrod High School starting at 1pm, with a route leading up towards Rivington Pike.
The under 8’s race had 4 competitors, the Under 10’s had 11 competitors, the Under 12’s had 13 competitors and finally the Under 14’s & under 16’s race had 19 competitors.
Just as the last of these races was finishing, the team received reports of an incident in Rivington (please see incident report 35/2016)
The senior race, which is now one of the oldest and most historic in the country, started in Horwich and led up to Rivington Pike then back again, this commenced at 3pm with 364 runners. The team returned to provide cover for this once the incident in Rivington had been dealt with.
Thankfully the races passed without incident. The team would like to thank Horwich RMI Harriers & AC who are very supportive of Bolton MRT and in particular Pete Ramsdale who has been involved in organising these events for many years now.
