Jolly Crofters Fundraising Team

17th February 2017

Regular readers of this website will know the tremendous support we received over a period of some ten years from Jim Fletcher BEM of Belthorn and his ‘customers’ at The Shed.  During that time around £7,000 was donated to Bolton Mountain Rescue Team by the Belthorn community and by Jim personally.

To show our appreciation, in 2012 we named one of our Mountain Rescue Land Rover Ambulances “Jim Fletcher BEM” – see website article of 4th November 2012.

Very sadly, Jim passed away in May 2016 (see website article of 20th May 2016) and the same vehicle joined the funeral cortege from Jim’s home to the crematorium.

Our Treasurer has now received an absolutely wonderful legacy of £20,000 from Jim’s estate – such a typical gesture of thoughtfulness and generosity from a very special friend of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and whose memory will live on.  Jim came from humble beginnings to be a very kind, generous and well-loved supporter of his community in Belthorn and of many charities including our own, and he was well deserving of the honour of being awarded the British Empire Medal in 2012.
