Today the team was contacted by the North West Ambulance Services (NWAS) to assist with the transport of a 17 year old female who had fallen from her horse in the Hindsford area of Tyldesley.
The ambulance was able to access the casualty direct but she was complaining of severe back pain and the road was unsurfaced and transporting her in the NWAS ambulance down that road would have caused severe distress. Therefore following discussion with the paramedic on scene the decision was made to transfer the lady onto our mountain rescue stretcher which had been prepared with our vacuum mattress to immobilise her back and casualty bag to help keep her warm and remove the crews scoop stretcher.
This allowed the team members to do a short carry of about 200m which although only took a few minutes helped prevent quite a bit of suffering for the casualty which is ultimately why the team is here.
Another great example of joint working with NWAS.
The team wishes the young lady a full and speedy recovery.
