On the evening of Sunday 7th September 2014, three of our team operational members, Equipment Officer – Base / HQ Paul Copley, Treasurer Martin Banks and very long serving Gillian Leigh, were guests of Bolton Lads and Girls Club Graduation Evening at the Platinum Suite, Bolton Wanderers Football Club, Macron Stadium, at Middlebrook, Bolton.
Members of Bolton Lads and Girls Club had recently participated in the National Citizens Scheme, involving four sections, i.e., a week of social action with visits from Police and charities, a week of planning their charity work and four days of carrying out their charity work.
Seven young Lads and Girls Club members who had participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, kindly agreed to fundraise for the Bolton MRT, given the relevance of mountain rescue in regards to their DoE Award work.
We understand the seven kindly undertook a sponsored walk around around Rivington in late August 2014, and at the evening their fantastic fundraising efforts for us resulted in the news that they had raised the marvellous sum of £243.53p for Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.
Tonight at 19.00hrs we were honoured to receive as our guests at our Ladybridge Hall Base / HQ, members of Bolton Lads and Girls Club, to officially hand over their very kind donation of £243.53p to the team.
Attending were Wave Leader Nozir Uddin, Assistant Wave Leader Melissa Shaw, Team Leader Stephanie Harper, Abbie and her proud mum Tracy, and NCS (National Citizens Service) Graduate Matt Brock. They were initially met by team Call Out list member John Dickinson, who gave all a quick tour of our Base / HQ as our training session (see ‘news’ report dated Thursday 2nd October) was just starting, so all got to see our team members being put through their annual BLS / CPR / AED use test.
A tour of our based Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances, radio call signs Bolton mobile 3 and 4, then took place, with some photo’s of the kind donation handover.
This is a fantastic donation to the team by some very kind young people, and the team membership is grateful to these members of Bolton Lads and Girls Club for supporting us in this manner.
