Bolton MRT were kindly invited to take part in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Turton Parade. The parade took place this afternoon from Turton Tower to The Barlow Institute, Edgworth. Bolton Land Rovers Mobile 1 & Mobile 3 attended crewed by experienced senior team member Mike Marsh, team secretary and Support Group member Gillian Gregory, team call out members Naomi Horan, Kris Kilshaw, Dave Cook, Dave Crawford and Diane Blakeley. They were also joined by team mascot “Rory the Rescue Dog”.
The parade left Turton Tower not long after 2pm. So that the team could quickly respond to any emergency calls, Bolton Mobile 3 lead the parade, whilst Bolton Mobile 1 was at the rear. Despite the rain lots of people lined the route particularly around Turton Tower and through Edgworth Village. Rory who throughout waved a Union Jack got lots of waves and photographs, he was a big hit. The parade included various floats and a brass band that kept us entertained throughout.
We arrived at Barlow Institute to a cheer and round of applause, with many comments of “they do a great job”, which was nice. At the Institute the fun continued with events including children in red, white and blue t-shirts who were to create a big Union Jack for an aerial photograph. There were also stalls, a hog roast and various competitions.
