Today the team provided full standby rescue cover for the ever popular annual Belmont Fell Races, all of which take place on and around Winter Hill, Belmont. Commencing at 12.30hrs, 21x young fell runners took part in the mass start for the Under 12’s, Under 14’s and Under 16’s races, from Belmont Village up on to the flanks of Winter Hill and back down again. The Senior event took place at 13.15hrs, attracting 112x runners, over a 4.5 mile very steep uphill and then downhill course.
Weather conditions on the day were reasonable with clear skies, temperatures hovering around 15c but with wet conditions underfoot due to the weeks of recent heavy rainfall!
In total 29 team members attended along with one friend of the team also lending their kind assistance, (Thanks Maggie) alongside all four of our Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulance Vehicles, our Team Minibus and our Control Trailer.
Thankfully the all the races passed off without incident with no calls on the teams services, but we did help with an unfortunate person who injured her thumb and asked the team for help.
The team is happy to support this established long running village based Fell Race event, and will be on hand as ever to support the 2013 Belmont Fell Races.
